I just did a rough calculation for the size of the Terran Mandate before the Scream. Assuming relays of spike-6 couriers, it was roughly 7300 hexes across.
I estimate that the Terran Mandate contained approximately 13 million star systems accessible by spike drive. It was a big beast and it fell hard.
