Word Homebrew idea: Gravity.

I'm reading through the deluxe core rulebook (Just bought the physical copy, so cool.) and as i'm reading the Words available in this version new ideas for new Words are flooding to me. I know Lexicon of the Throne is bringing more Words but one Word that's been on my mind a lot is Gravity.

I just finished Gravity Rush 2 a few weeks ago and the idea of a Gravity Shifter Godbound flying around, redirecting their own gravity, falling a mile out of the sky unharmed and crashing through rooftops and creating gravity fields to lift objects or people and toss them is too cool to ignore.

Unfortunately i'm a total noob at this and I don't want to make a Word myself that ends up being too broken. Anyone have any ideas for gifts that are suitable to the above mentioned Gravity Rush mechanics? And of course anything else. I feel like Gravity is a cool Word regardless of whether it's based on Gravity Rush or not. It's a primordial universal force after all.

You might be able to borrow at least a few powers from Might (physical lifting of things) and Sky/Journeying (flight), and then homebrew some other things. At the very least, the above items are a good place to start

In fact, give me a little while and I’ll post an example of how I’d do it

Awesome my dude. This Word has so much potential to be honest. Redirecting ones own gravity to fall up/sideways and walk on ceilings, maybe even redirecting others gravity etc. Making yourself light as a feather (Lunar Style) or super heavy (Jupiter Style) could work those in.

Ok, so here’s a (very) rough draft:

Basically took a bunch of existing powers, re-skinned them for the theme, then added some unique Gifts that need a balance check to see if they’re overpowered

And I didn’t define the Singularity power. Maybe treat it like the Theurgy spell Grinding Teeth of God? Seems about the right scale for that Gift name.

+Lance Johnson Oh that last bit is a good idea.

Change the damage code to 1d10 per 2 character levels for people, since it’s a smite power with no significant duration, and add the caveat that if it’s used more than twice in a given area, it will tear open a NIght Road (instead of the ‘eating artifacts’ problem with the spell)

Oh, I was wondering how to mimic the devastation of a sinuglarity on space and time, opening Night Roads is simple genius.

To be fair, it’s in the spell description, I just changed the condition it would occur under ^_^

Yeah but i'm so new to this i'd not have thought of it. I appreciate it.

No worries 😊 I’m a bit new yet myself, so I know the feeling

Also, to add Magnetism popped in my head today while looking over Earth. Master of the planets electromagnetic field.

Magnetism would probably have more ‘moving things’ type powers, like telekinesis would, but that hasn’t been modelled as well as I would like. Possibly grab Stars Without Number and cobble something together based on the kinetic psi power from there

I'm not sure if Magnetism should be it's own Word or maybe a custom version of the Earth Word.

Possibly just flavour Earth more toward metal

Jay Wyatt

I see it as an extension of Earth since the magnetic field is created by the planet (At least in real life). Or you could just treat metal as another form of Earth but magnetism is too cool.

Gravity is obviously 'a must' conceptually if someone run a scifi/space Godbound game.
