Metapsionics 1-2 punch:

1. Main Action: Start a Metadimensional Friction field in a kill zone.

2. Wait for psychics to enter the kill zone. They might know something is wrong (that's the GM's call), so they might not use powers that require Effort.

3. When they use a psychic power that does not require Effort, the Metapsion uses an Instant Action to start Psychic Static. If the target psychic spends Effort to use the normally free power, that's at least 3d8 damage! ZAP!

AAAAAND it seems I've misread the entry on Metadimensional Friction. It's not a "field", it's a localized disturbance around a single target within 200m of the metapsion.

The mechanics remain roughly the same, but this is not an area effect attack. It just works on one psychic target at a time.

The way I read it is the field is centered on a psychic, the 'target'. Any NPC psychic, including the target that commits effort within the field takes the listed damage, though the 'target' gets a save to avoid it.

What it doesn't say is how big the field is.

+Calum M I'd probably keep it contained to the target. 3d8 damage is a lot, and it goes up to 4d8 at level 9. That's a lightning bolt zapping the psychic.

Ok, so I used this in my game last night. The poor PC Telekinetic/Biopsionic tried to use TK Armory, found that he needed an additional point of Effort, spent it, and then took 3d8 damage. He had 14 HP, I rolled 19.

The two warrior PCs pulled him out of the line of fire and zapped him with an Integrity stim.

The player will undoubtedly be more careful when I tell him that his PC needs to dump more Effort into an otherwise free power...
